Onondaga CC Captures Region III Women's Tennis Team Championship

Onondaga CC Women's Tennis Region III Champions The Onondaga Community College Women's Tennis team captures the 2018 Region III Championship Sunday afternoon at the Drumlins Tennis Center in Syracuse.  OCC earned 12 total team points, two more than runner-up SUNY Broome Community College.  Hudson Valley Community College finished in third place with 3 total points.

The team championship is the first for the Lazers since 1992 and ends a six year run for SUNY Broome CC.  The Lazers and Hornets captures four of the nine individual championships.  OCC won a pair of titles in both singles and doubles while BCC earned three flight wins in singles and a fourth in doubles.  The final flight was won by Hudson Valley CC's Jacqueline Bornt.

Onondaga's Kennedy Myers and Jordan Cole earned titles in 5th and 6th singles respecitively with wins in the finals over BCC's Sara Figura and Breona Bogart.  OCC teammates Katie Lesselroth and Jennifer Lapp took home the title in 2nd doubles with a straight sets win over BCC Kimberl Yuhnick and Kara Shanks while Kaitlynn Ryan and Talitha Freeman were victorious in 3rd doubles over BCC's Figura and Bogart.

SUNY Broome's Brianna Harmon was the only player who earned championships in both singles and doubles competition.  Harmon captured the 2nd Singles title with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Hudson
Valley CC's Miranda Morrison in the semifinals followed by a 6-2, 6-2 win over OCC's Katie Lesselroth.  She and teammate Jacqueline Bornt Headshot Photo Shyanne Daye teamed up to earn the Region III Doubles Champions with a come from behind three set win over Hudson Valley CC's Jacquline Bornt and Morrison 4-6, 6-0, 6-2 in 1st Doubles competition.  The two other BCC Singles championships were won by Kimberly Yuhnick in 3rd Singles and Kara Shanks in 4th Singles.

HVCC's Jacqueline Bornt was named the Region III Singles Champion with her win in the 1st Flight Singles bracket.  The tournament's top seed entered the Regional Tournament with a perfect 8-0 record in singles competition.  Bornt opened the tournament with a 6-1, 6-1 win over MVCC's Autumn Fallon on Saturday.  She was equally as dominant in the finals on Sunday as she again claimed victory in straight sets, 6-1, 6-0.

Onondaga will be joined by the other five Regional Champions at the NJCAA Division III Women's Tennis Championship November 2nd through November 4th at the Peachtree City Tennis Center in Peachtree, Georgia.
